This is a very quick watercolor painting I did as both a goodbye and get well gift for a friend. She came out of the hospital not long ago, and I probably won't see her again in a long time (since I'll be moving away), so I wanted to paint something for her. But I had to do the sketch on saturday evening and paint everything on sunday morning, which is why it's a rather simple piece.
I still think it turned out cute, and my friend certainly liked it. :)

Studies

I've been doing some studies these days in order to improve my skills.

I don't usually draw backgrounds just for fun (I do when I draw comics because I have to ^^" ), and I'm also not very good at digital color (I normally just do rather simple coloring with PS), so this was an exercise for both.

It took wayyy to long to be a study, but I'll gain speed with practice.
Oh, and I'd be grateful for any useful tips about improving PS coloring, I have little to no clue about technique!

There were these nice sunset colors out of the window, so I quickly pulled out my colored pencils and tried to get it down. It didn't turn out too great, but it might give you an idea.
Then I drew my cup of tea while I waited for it to cool down.

And this is my workplace. Yes, it's a mess right now. T'was fun to draw, but now my eyes are so strained I can't focus them properly. I guess I over-did it. XD

Mainly I'm trying to do some stuff without the pencil sketch underneath, to force myself to see properly what I want to draw, since I won't be able to erase it. My eyes are not too happy, but I suppose they'll get used to it.

And that's it for now! I want to try and make at least one study per week, even when I work. Let's see if I can keep up with it.

Tasmanian Devil studies

Okay, I don't usually upload rough sketches like these, but some friends on Facebook wanted to see them, so here they are.
The thing is, in my own comic project I want there to be a tasmanian devil character, so I need to practice to draw those little buggers.

The first one (top left) is basically copied from a photo, then there are those really quick sketches to get down the way the devils move, drawn while watching some Youtube videos. They're really meant to be very rough, it's just all about the movement.

Then I tried to break down their face into something easier to draw without reference (top right), a failed attempt to draw one without reference that looks more like a racoon (the one just below the copied one)... And then i started getting the hang of 'em a little more. The angry one at the bottom turned out quite nice, and both on the other paper are pretty good, too.
Understanding the tasmanian devil's skull (its jaws, precisely) was key here.

Since my tazzies always seem to look A LOT like Stitch (I swear it's not on purpose, they just turn out like that!), I tried the last one with visible pupils instead of all black eyes, but it doesn't really look right. It makes it look like a dog. Which it's not.

Anyway. Lots of text probably nobody will read. But if there's anyone interested in this kind of stuff and actually read it - thank you! ^^"

This was a commission by my aunt as a Christmas gift for her fiancé. She wanted something similar to the cartoon characters from the "Love is..." comic strips. Well, my style's quite different of course, but anyway.

I used the "Love is..." typography for the text on top, so all copyright for that goes to them.

I hope y'all started out the New Year really, really good!

It will definetely be an exciting year for me, as me and my husband will be moving to Germany next month, into our newly-bought house! Interesting times ahead. =D

So, anyway... here's the final cover for my latest comic, "My Boyfriend is a Monster: I Date Dead People", as well as the inks I provided for the colorist.

As it has already been shown on webs like Amazon, I think it should be safe to show it here now.

The colors were done by Eldon Cowgur, just like for "I Love Him to Pieces".

And just for fun, these are some of the sketches I sent for the cover layout. The one that was finally chosen is number 5 here, although I preferred to give Nora a little smile in the end.

In case you're wondering - no, they were not supposed to be naked in the first layouts. I just normally don't draw clothes for quick sketches like these. ;)

...I think I already said that before.

Here's this year's Christmas card. As every year, my wonderful husband Marc Rueda did the drawing and ink, and I took care of the colors.

I couldn't upload this sooner 'cause, you know, some people didn't get their printed cards until now... ;)

This is the main character for a comic project I'm working on and hope to present to editors during the next year. Oh, I've still got a long way to go, I'm still pitching the story for the book and defining the characters. But I'll get there.

Anyway, this is Lani. Some of you might remember her with the name "Hisui", because she's a recurring character in my drawings and I decided to finally turn her into a story. I didn't want to use japanese names since it won't have anything to to with Japan. Lani suits her well.
This is just a sketch for her design, I'll obviously do a better, cleaner design drawing.

I won't tell you much more about her character, you'll just have to wait and hope I find a publisher for this! ;)

Soldier of Silence

Ah, Sailor Saturn. I've been meaning to draw her for a long time now, but I was never able to portray her just the way I wanted to. This one's not quite it either, but it's close. I liked her expression in the sketch better, though. And her skirt should sit lower on her hips, it looks weird.

Sailor Saturn always has, and always will be, my favourite of the Sailor Senshi.
The sickly young girl, barely starting to become a woman, raised by her tortured single father, so fragile and shy. And yet, she awakens to become the most powerful of all the Senshi (with exception of Sailor Moon, who surpasses her after SuperS), able to destroy a whole world with one blow of her Silence Glaive if she wishes to do so.

It's a shame she doesn't appear much in the show.

I've never been too fond of her Super costume, it doesn't really suit her. So here's her original form.

2011 Art Summary

What's this? Another update the same day? I'm sorry, I don't mean to spam. ;)

Anyway, I wanted to join the fun of the art summary memes on DeviantArt for this year! :D

So, as you see, all those months I hardly upload anything here (or anywhere else for that matter) don't mean I'm not drawing! In fact, I was working almost the whole year on my latest graphic novel: "I Date Dead People".

January I had only started doing the rough layouts, february I started with the pencils, and from march onward the inking (and shading) fun started, too.
July it was time to do the cover for the book, and from that month on all through most of september the deadlines crawled up on me and I got some help with the ink from my wonderful husband and fellow artist Marc Rueda.

We finished the book on time (even ahead of it! That's 124 pages in 9 months.) by the end of september, and then october... I didn't even want to hold a pencil. XD Nah, we also went to Germany for some weeks and bought a house, so no energy left for drawing. :P

Then came november and creativity kicked in again, which is really nice. Got to use my watercolors again. I ♥ my watercolors, and when I'm working on a comic I don't usually ever get a chance to use them. ^^"

I even got my first "Daily Deviation" ever! And I'm really grateful to everyone who supported me and continues to do so.
Thanks, y'all!

Aaaand that's that. There are still a few days left of december, so let's see what I can come up with in that time. ^^

Phew, I fiiiinally finished the colors for the second part of Jenny Ackermann's and my collaboration. For this one, she provided the outlines and I colored it.

It took a long time, as you might know I'm not really used to complicated digital coloring, so this was quite a challenge and a great practice. I wanted to see how far I can push it.
May I say I'm very proud of her knees? Her left one, to be precise. I love how it turned out. Knees are just something I don't quite understand, so. XD

I really like how it turned out, she did a great job on it. The glowing crystal turned out beautifully.

These are the inks I made for a collaboration with Jenny Ackermann - she did some outlines for me to color, I did some for her.
Let's see what she makes of it!

I felt like drawing the always-forgotten-Disney-princess Kida (from Disney's "Atlantis: The Lost Empire"). Her character is just really cool and I feel kind of sorry for her since she hardly gets any attention at all.

Obviously, Kida belongs to Disney, not to me. ;)

Minor changes (e.g. "That character's belt should look a little different" or "the right arm does seem a little too long") are okay in the sketching stage only. Past that (in the cleanup, ink, or color stage) I won't make any changes anymore.

So, as you might see, I needed a new blog header!

That's why I made this illustration. It is easily the piece that has taken me longest to finish - ever. It took over a week from start to finish. So I'm quite proud of it, even though not everything turned out the way I imagined it.

And since it's always cool to see when others do it, I'll post the rough sketch, clean pencil and final watercolor piece for you to see. ^^

The world needs more Tasmanian Devil drawings. Because they're just that cute. And very much under-represented. They deserve more love. They hiss and scream, and bite through bones, and are just so very adorable. =D

And their paws are like tiny little hands! How cute is that?

Por fin he terminado el proyecto en el que estaba trabajando!
Tras 9 meses por fin está hecho, aunque dos de ellos en realidad me los pasé esperando porque no tenía más guión... En fin, cosas que pasan. :/

Al final necesité ayuda de María Vilar para las tintas de 30 páginas, porque si no no podía entregar a tiempo... Pero tanto da, me alegro de que lo hayamos terminado.

No había dicho aún gran cosa sobre el proyecto, pero ahora ya encontré esto en la página web de la editorial, así que creo que por lo menos os puedo decir eso, que el título es "I Love Him to Pieces" y pertenece a la serie "My Boyfriend is a Monster" con el tema "zombies".
Ahora empezaré otro libro de la misma serie, pero aún no voy a desvelar cuál será el tema.

Bueno, creo que os dejaré con algunas páginas y ya está!

I finally finished the project I had been working on!
After 9 months it's finally done, although I had to wait about 2 of these for new script to arrive.... Anyway, I guess stuff happens. :/

Toward the end I needed the help of María Vilar for the ink of 30 pages, or otherwise I couldn't get it done in time for the deadline... But whatever, I'm glad we finished it.

I hadn't said hardly anything about the project yet, but since I found this on the publisher's website, I guess I can at least tell you this, that the title is "I Love Him to Pieces" and it belongs to the series "My Boyfriend is a Monster" - this one about zombies.
I'll get started with a new book of the series now, but I won't say just yet what it' s going to be about.

Well, I think I'll leave you now with some pages, and that's it!

Bueno, aquí os dejo algunas viñetas del "nuevo" comic en el que estoy trabajando. En realidad ya no es tan nuevo puesto que llevo desde abril trabajándo en él y que llevo la mitad del tomo. Para noviembre debería estar acabado.

En fin, tampoco me atrevo a contaros nada todavia, así que bueno, ahí queda eso.
Sólo que me divierto mucho con este proyecto, la trama es muy divertida y adoro dibujar al chico chino ese. :D

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, part 2

Valeee, aquí va la segunda parte de personajes de Buffy!

Lo que hace pintar un poco... comparándo con la primera tanda, me atrevo a decir que estos han quedado muchísimo mejor en cuando a color. ^^

En fin, son Xander Harris, Tara Maclay, Rupert Giles, Anya Jenkins y Dawn Summers. Y con esto acabo por el momento con personajes de esta serie. A ver qué hago ahora. ;)

What you gain by painting a little... comparing to the first round, I dare to say these turned out a lot better when it comes to color. ^^

Hace poco Marc y yo acabamos de ver todas las temporadas de "Buffy: La Cazavampiros" en DVD, y ya que tengo tiempo libre pensé, ¿porqué no hacer algunos dibujitos de la "Scoobie Gang", es decir, de la pandilla de Buffy?

Así que aquí teneis los que he hecho hasta ahora. Son Buffy Summers, Spike, Angel, Daniel Osbourne ("Oz") y Willow Rosenberg. Algunos han salido mejor que otros, pero bueno, en cualquier caso es un buen ejercicio de dibujar diferentes personajes y pintarlos.
También tengo pensado hacer a Xander, Anya, Tara, Dawn y Giles, así que llevo la mitad. :)

A few days ago Marc and I finished watching all seasons of "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" on DVD, and since I've got some free time on my hands I thought, why not make some pictures of the Scoobie Gang, that is to say, Buffy and friends?

So here are those I've made until now. They're Buffy Summers, Spike, Angel, Daniel Osbourne ("Oz") and Willow Rosenberg. Some turned out better than others, but well, in any case this is a good exercise in drawing different faces and coloring them.
I'm planning as well to do Xander, Anya, Tara, Dawn and Giles, so I'm only halfway done. :)

Ki Aikido

Ya hace bastante tiempo que quería hacer una ilustración sobre Aikido, ya desde hace como 2 o 3 años, y al fin me he puesto manos a la obra. :P

Intenté captar la fluidez y los movimientos circulares, y también quería darle un toque como abocetado... No estoy segura de haberlo conseguido, pero he hecho lo que he podido.

Están haciendo un Munetsuki kaiten nage, por cierto. No es que eso le importe a nadie. XD

Ha sido la primera vez en AÑOS que he usado mis acuarelas "normales". Siempre he estado usándo las anilinas desde que las empezamos a usar en la escuela de cómic, pero ahora quería desenterrar mi cajita de acuarelas "secas" otra vez. Sigue siendo igual de divertido pintar con ellas! =D
Pintar las hakamas (los pantalones anchos esos) fue especialmente divertido. Bueno, en general la ropa, con los pliegues fluidos siguiéndo el movimiento. ^^

For a while now I've been wanting to do a painting about Aikido, ever since like, 2 or 3 years ago, and finally I actually got to do something about it. :P

I tried to capture the fluid movements and circular motion, and I also wanted a sort of sketchy and loose feeling for it... I'm not sure if I succeeded, but I did what I could.

They're doing a Munetsuki kaiten nage, by the way. Not that anyone cares. XD

It's been the first time in YEARS that I've used my regular watercolors again, too. I've always been using the liquid ones ever since we started using those at the comic school, but now I wanted to dig out my good old "dry" watercolors again. So much fun to paint with watercolors! =D
Painting their hakamas (those baggy pants-thingies) was especially fun. Well, all of the clothes really, with all those folds following the movement. ^^

Profile Challenge

Hace unas semanas ya que no he tenido tiempo libre para hacer ninguno de los retos de Design-a-Character, pero esta semana mientras esperaba aprobaciones de parte de la editorial me he lanzado a hacer uno de algunas semanitas atrás.
Se trataba de hacer perfiles de adolescentes diferentes y básicamente he aprovechado para tener más claros los diseños de algunos personajes del cómic en el que estoy trabajando.

Los de arriba son un grupo de amigos del mismo equipo de deportes, mientras que los de abajo son más bien un grupo de amigos frikis que prefiere los deportes en la videoconsola. ;)

Me tomé mi tiempo para practicar el color a ordenador.

For some weeks already I haven't had any free time to do any of the Design-a-Character challenges, but this week while I was waiting for approvals on my work I went ahead and did this one from a few weeks back,
It was about doing different teenager profiles, and basically I took the chance to get a better idea of some of the characters who appear in the comic I'm currently working on.

The ones in the top row are a group of friends who are together on the same sports team, while the ones below are more geek friends who rather prefer sports on their video console. ;)

I toom my time to practice coloring with Photoshop, too.

IV Salón del Cómic de Castilla y León, parte 2

Sí, yo voy a hacer una entrada por día, por esto de traducirlo al Inglés. Argh, cuánto trabajo. Bueno, sigo con la crónica.

Viernes, 05 de marzo:

Nos levantamos prontito para desayunar (¡qué maja era la chica del hotel que se encargaba de los desayunos!) y luego ir a la Casa Revilla para la presentación oficial del salón. Ramón vino a buscarnos y fuimos para allá.
Allí había unos cuantos periodistas, fotógrafos, y, claro está, los que presentarían: Carlos Ramírez, la concejala de cultura Mercedes Cantalapiedra y Estefanía Jimenez (profesora de la UEMC).
Anoche ya nos habían avisado que nosotros también deberíamos decir algunas palabras, y por suerte yo me pude escaquear y dejé que Marc hiciera esa parte.

Lo hizo genial, ¡hasta consiguió que la concejala de comprometiera a apoyar los futuros salones! Yo no habría sabido decir nada más aparte de "felicidades" y "gracias". Realmente se le da bien hablar con la gente.

Luego todavía nos hicieron algunas fotos para los periódicos y a Marc le hicieron una sesión de fotos "pro" para El Norte de Castilla. Posando como un modelo de verdad, mientras a mí la fotógrafa me dijo "Tú coge el cartel del salón y aguántalo ahí como fondo, pero tú no sales en la foto." Vaya, gracias. Tampoco es que quiera salir en los periódicos, pero esa frase dolió un poco de todas formas. XD

Despues de la presentación había que irse a toda prisa a la UEMC para nuestras charlas. Bueno, la de Marc primero.
Nos llevaron en coche (a Marc, Ramón y a mí) Daniel Tomillo, el responsable de publicidad y marketing de la universidad (¡gracias por recordarme el nombre!) y la profesora de derecho, Estefanía, hasta la UEMC, que quedaba algo lejos.

Llegábamos media hora tarde porque claro, la presentación era a las 12 y la charla de Marc en teoría era a las 13 h, y estaba en otro sitio, así que no llegamos a tiempo. Pero los compañeros de la escuela de arte de Jeremi - que el día anterior ya nos había anunciado que vendrían - y las demás personas que habían ido a ver la charla estaban esperándo pacientemente.

Así que nada, yo me senté al fondo de la sala y Marc se fue al frente para que Matías le presentara y comenzó su charla. El tema era "Iniciación laboral en el mundo del cómic", aunque se podía ampliar fácilmente tambien a ilustración, animación y cosas similares.
Como los chicos de la clase de Jeremi eran de ilustración estaban muy interesados, y resultó una clase muy interactiva y yo creo que muy buena. Marc pudo ayudarles en unas cuantas dudas que tenían, y al final Matías incluso tuvo que cortarles porque se hacía tarde, y había que ir a comer algo antes de que me tocara el turno a mí.

Así que nada, bajamos al comedor de la universidad, donde nos reunimos con Carlos y Mónica. Ellos no habían podido venir hasta el final de la charla de Marc, los pobres todos los días del salón anduvieron liadísimos.

Tras la *ejem* muy sana comida de comedor de universidad volvimos arriba a mirar un ratiro la exposición que había montada en la UEMC con dibujos nuestros. Antes apenas habíamos tenido tiempo de mirarla. Quedó muy chula y la verdad, siempre hace muchísima ilusión ver dibujos propios expuestos así.

Despues me tocó a mí el turno de dar mi "master class". No sé yo si soy muy "master", pero vaya, ahí está. Iba a hablar un poco sobre mi trabajo, lo que había hecho hasta ahora y mi forma de trabajar, nada especial realmente.
En la sala de ordenadores donde la dí todo el mundo podía ver lo que había en el proyector también en su propia pantalla. Muy interesante aquello.

Tras conocer a los chicos de la clase de Jeremi ya no estaba tan nerviosa, eran todos muy majos y había buen rollo. Aún así al cabo de un minuto de hablar se me secó totalmente la garganta de modo que me costaba pronunciar palabra, y aún bebiéndo agua no se me iba. Qué mal, vaya corte. Marc dice en su blog que hablaba bajito, pues sí, con la garganta seca ya me costaba hablar de cualquier forma, anda ya que levantar la voz me costaba horrores.

Intentándo abrir los archivos para la charla.

Pero bueno, al final pasó, y creo que más o menos bien, aunque conmigo ya casi no había preguntas que hacer. En la charla de Marc ya se había preguntado todo lo que había que preguntar. Algunos chicos luego me dijeron que lo había hecho muy bien, así que voy a hacer como que les creo. ;)

Al acabar aún nos quedamos charlando un ratito con los chicos, a Marc le hicieron una entrevista para la tele, y luego ya nos fuimos para ver qué hacían Carlos y Mónica (que se habían tenido que ir otra vez) en el la nave donde se celebraría el salón.

"¿Y qué es abocetar?" Pregunta verídica.

Antes de bajar al aparcamiento Matías aún nos trajo unas bolsas con regalos de la UEMC - camisetas, bolis, alfombrillas de ratón y ¡memory sticks de 2 GB! Yo hacía tiempo que había perdido el mio de 250 MB y justo antes del salón había pensado en comprarme uno, así que este regalo lo agradezco muchísimo.

Matías nos llevó entonces a Ramón, Marc, a otra chica y a mí a la sede de ADIF - eso, el sitio donde se haría el salón. Carlos y Mónica estában hasta arriba de trabajo, intentándo preparar las bolsas sorpresa que se darían con las entradas... y había que preparar 1000 de ellas. En cada una vendrían un manga, el programa del salón y un folleto, y claro, había que meter todo eso en las bolsas individualmente.
Así que nos quedamos algo más de una hora para ayudarles un poco. Entre 4 o 5 que eramos en ese tiempo conseguimos avanzar bastante.
Se suponía que en esas bolsas también irían las chapas de Marc, pero aún no le habían llegado, así que nada.

Despues del ratito ayudándo con las bolsas ya nos fuimos Marc y yo al hotel, a descansar un rato, que estábamos agotados ya.

Quedamos para cenar más tarde otra vez con Carlos, Mónica y Ramón en una pizzería que se llamába Via Verona (¿no era Via Veneta o algo así?) , donde cenamos unos solomillos de cerdo deliciosos con salsa de champiñones. ¡Mmmmh! Estában buenísimos. Quiero unos, ahora. XD

Y luego ya nada, sobre las 12 o la 1, o algo así, volvimos al hotel, y directos a la cama a dormir. ¡Ya había pasado "lo peor", es decir, las charlas que nos tenían nerviosos!

Friday, march 5th:

We woke up early to have breakfast (the girl from the hotel who took charge of breakfast was so nice!) and then go to the Casa Revilla for the official presentation of the convention. Ramón came for us and there we went.

There were some reporters, photographs and, of course, those who'd present: Carlos Ramírez, thecultural counciller Mercedes Cantalapiedra and Estefanía Jiménez (professor at the UEMC).

The night before we had been told already that we, too, should say a few words again, and luckily for me I could leave that to Marc.

He did great, he even got the counciller to promise she'd support future conventions, too! I wouldn't have managed to say anything apart from "congratulations" and "thank you". Marc's really good at talking with people.

After that photographers took some photos of all of us for the newspapers and Marc got some kind of "pro" photoshooting for El Norte de Castilla. Posing like a real model, whereas to me the photographer only said "You take that poster and hold it up behind him as a background, but I don't want you on the picture." Why thank you. Not that I wanted to be in the newspapers, but that did hurt a bit anyway. XD

After the presentation we had to rush to the UEMC for our talks. Well, for Marc's, first of all.
We (Marc, Ramón and I) were taken by car by Daniel Tomillo, responsible for publicity and marketing for the university and the professor for law, Estefanía, to the UEMC, which was a bit further away.

We arrived half an hour late because, well, the presentation was at 12 am and Marc's talk at 1 pm, and it was at a different place, so we didn't arrive in time. But Jeremi's classmates - Jeremi had announced us the previous day that they'd come - and the other attendees were waiting patiently.

So well, I just sat down in the back of the room and Marc went to the front so that Matías could present him and his talk commenced. The topic was "How to get started in the comic industry", although you could easily expand it to illustration, animation and similar things.
Since Jeremi's classmates were art students they were really interested, and the class turned out very interactive and I think really good. Marc could help them with some doubts they had, and in the end Matías even had to put an end to it because it was getting late, and we had to go and eat something before my turn arrived.

IV Salón del Cómic de Castilla y León, parte 1

Bueno, pues aquí va la primera parte de la crónica del viaje al salón de Valladolid. Vamos por días.

Jueves, 04 de marzo:

Tras haber dormido en Barcelona la noche anterior, sobre las 12 del mediodía cogimos el AVE hacia Zaragoza. La verdad es que viajar en AVE es una gozada, super cómodo, silencioso y, evidentemente, rápido. Tuvimos suerte con el tiempo y hacía sol, por lo que pudimos disfrutar de la vista por la ventana de muchos diferentes paisajes de España a lo largo del viaje.
Al cabo de un tiempo nos pusieron la película "Diario de una compradora compulsiva" para ver en el tren. La película no es gran cosa, como cabía esperar, pero era perfecta para unas horas de viaje en tren - desconectas el cerebro, miras, y dejas que pase el tiempo. No pudimos terminar de verla porque tuvimos que hacer trasbordo en Zaragoza (el AVE seguía, claro) al Talgo que nos llevaría a Valladolid. Bueno, ya nos podíamos imaginas el final de la peli, no fue muy grave. :P
El trayecto en AVE duró sólo una hora y media más o menos, nada comparado con el siguiente tramo, que duró unas 4 horas.

Despues de que arrancara el Talgo hacia Valladolid lo primero fue comer algo, que habíamos traído rollitos de pizza que preparé yo y que son muy prácticos para comer de camino porque no manchan nada, y nada, seguimos viendo paisajes (aunque en el Talgo nos tocaron sitios en la pared donde no hay ventana... pero bueno, apartando la cortina se podía ver por la de delante), luego nos pusieron la película "París París", que no estaba mal, pero francamente era demasiado lenta y... se podría decir que demasiado inteligente, para ver en un trayecto tan largo y cansado de tren, y se hizo un poco pesada.

Y poco más hay que contar del viaje, finalmente sobre las 18 horas llegamos a Valladolid, donde en la estación ya nos estaba esperando Ramón Varela, amigo por Messenger de Marc y uno de los miembros de ASOFED (ASOFED siendo la asociación que montó casi todo el salón). Cogimos un taxi que nos llevó al hotel para descansar un rato. Quedamos en vernos más tarde para la inauguración de las Asociaciones del salón.

El hotel era genial, de 4 estrellas, muy acogedor y agradable, y en pleno centro, así que estaba cerca de, bueno, de todo. Nos instalamos allí, y al cabo de un ratito nos vino a buscar otra vez Ramón, para ir todos juntos al restaurante Camarín de San Martín donde habíamos quedado con toda la gente que participaba en la organización del salón.

Allí por fin conocimos a Carlos Ramínez y a su mujer Mónica Martínez, los principales organizadores del Salón y presidente y tesorera de ASOFED.
También estaban Jeremi Pirot, Lidia Fernández (trabajó, entre otras muchas cosas, en storyboards de Planet 51), Matías (profesor de sideño gráfico en la Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC)), Cristian, Rut, Jacobo y muchísima gente más de los que desgraciadamente no pude recordar todos los nombres, pero que pertenecían a las asociaciones juveniles que ayudaron a organizar el salón y tendrían stands allí.

Todo el mundo era majísimo, Mónica inmediatamente nos atendió y nos trajo algo para beber, todo el mundo parecía muy interesado en conocernos... daba un poco de corte, la verdad, ¡nos trataban como a estrellas! Y eso que somos prácticamente del todo desconocidos en el mundo del cómic...
Al cabo de un rato Carlos y los presidentes de las asociaciones dirigieron unas palabras a los demás presentes, y nos pidió que nosotros también dirigieramos algunas palabras al público... ¡Dios mio, qué vergüenza!
Afortunadamente a Marc se le da muy bien improvisar (a contrario que a mí) y consiguió que quedaramos bien y todo, y yo poco tuve que añadir despues de eso. ;)

Despues trajeron un montón de cosillas para picar - empanadillas, croquetas, tortilla de patata, embutidos... total, que comimos bastante y muy rico, y creíamos que eso era la cena, pero... ¡no!

Sobre las 11 de la noche nos despedimos de todo el mundo que estaba allí, todos los dibujantes presentes hicimos un dibujo en el libro de visitas del restaurante, y despues nos fuimos Carlos, Monica, Ramón y Marc y yo a cenar a un restaurante chino que conocían. Ellos eran amigos del dueño, un chino conocido sólo como Miguel (según él es lo que equivaldría a su nombre original en Chino), todo un personaje, aficionado al Real Madrid por lo que nos contaron.

Era muy simpático y nos sirvió comida encantado a pesar de que fuera tan tarde. Cenamos bien, y mucho, y finalmente sobre la 1 de la madrugada nos despedimos de Carlos y Mónica, Ramón nos acompañó de vuelta al hotel (estaba a 5 minutos), y ya nos fuimos rendidos a dormir.

Al día siguiente tendríamos que dar una charla cada uno en la UEMC, y estábamos algo nerviosos.

Well, here goes the first part of my record of the trip to the comic con at Valladolid. Let's go day by day.

Thursday, march 4th:

After having slept in Barcelona the night before, at about 12 am we took the AVE (which is, at the moment, Spain's fastest hight-speed train) to Zaragoza.
Travelling with the AVE is really cool, very comfortable, silent and, obviously, fast. We were lucky with the weather ant it was sunny, so we could enjoy the view from the window of many different landscapes of Spain throughout the jorney.
After a while they showed the movie "Confessions of a Shopaholic" to watch in the train. The movie's no big deal as was to be expected, but it was perfect for a couple of hours during a train trip - you turn off your brain, watch, and let the time pass. We couldn't finish watching it because we had to change trains in Zaragoza (the AVE would go on, of course) to the Talgo (another high speed train, but older and slower) which would take us to Valladolid. Well, we could already imagine how the movie would end, so that wasn't much of a problem. :P
The trip with the AVE only took about 1 1/2 hours, nothing compared to the next part of the journey, which took us like, 4 hours.

After the Talgo left for Valladolid the first thing was to eat something - we had brought pizza "rolls" I'd prepared and which are really great to bring along on a trip because there's nothing to spill. And well, we continued seeing landscapes (though in the Talgo we got seats at the wall where there's no window... still, you could look through the window in front of us when we pushed the curtain aside), then they showed the movie "Paris Paris", which was not bad, but honestly too slow and... you could say too smart a movie to watch during such a long and tiring trip, so it was rather dull.

And that's about all there's to say about the train journey. Finally at about 18 pm we arrivet at Valladolid, where at the station Ramón Varela, friend of Marc via the internet and one of ASOFED's people (ASOFED being the association who organized almost everything for the con), was already waiting for us. We took a cab to the hotel where we could rest a little. We agreed to meet later for the association's presentation of the convention.

The hotel was awesome (it had 4 stars) and was very inviting and nice, and in the center of the city, so it was close to, well, everything. We left our things there, and after a while Ramón came to pick us up again so we could go all together to the restaurant Camarín de San Martín, where we were to meet the people who helped organize the convention.

There we finally met Carlos Ramírez and his wife Monica Martínez, the main organizers of the convention and president and treasurer of ASOFED. There was also Jeremi Pirot, Lidia Fernández (who worked, among other things, on storyboards for Planet 51), Matías (teacher for graphic design at the European University Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC)), Cristian, Rut, Jacobo, and more people whose names I unfortunatley can't remember all, but who mainly belonged to the youth associations involved in the convention and who'd have stands there.

Everybody was wonderful, Mónica immediately received us and brought us something to drink, everyone seemd interested in meeting us... it was almost a bit scary really, we were being treated like stars! And that even though we're almost completely unknown in the comic world...
After a while Carlos and the presidents of the other associations wanted to say a few words to inaugurate the convention towards the rest of the people there, and he asked us to say a few words, too... I felt so awkward!
Luckily Marc is really good at improvising (unlike me) and managed to make us even look good and everything, and I didn't have to say much more after that. ;)

After that a lot of tapas and stuff to eat were brought in - pastries, croquettes, potato tortilla, sausages... anyway, we ate a lot and really well, and we thought that was our dinner already, but.. it wasn't!

At around 11 pm we said goodbye to the people at the restaurant, all the artists who were there made a drawing in the restaurant's guest book, and after that Carlos, Mónica, Ramón and us left to have dinner at a Chinese restaurant they knew. They were friends of the owner, a Chinese known only as Miguel (according to himself, that's what would correspond to his original name in Chinese), a really interesting person and fan of the Real Madrid according to what we were told.

He was very nice and happily brought us food despite the late hour it was. We ate well, and a lot, and finally at about 1 am we said goodbye to Carlos and Mónica, Ramón took us back to the hotel (it was only 5 minutes away), and very tired but happy, we went to bed.

The next day both of us would have to do a talk at the UEMC, and we were a little nervous.

Revising my notes for the master class tomorrow... Gee, I was nervous (even though it doesn't look like it on the picture)!

Chris Sanders style challenge

Bueno, ya he empezado la crónica del viaje a Valladolid, pero como quiero traducirlo también al Inglés (para los amigos que no sepan Español) voy poco a poco, ya lo colgaré. Hasta entonces podeis ver la que colgó Marc en su blog.

Mientras tanto, estos días además de diseños de personajes para mi próximo proyecto he hecho el reto de esta semana de Design-a-character, que consistía en dibujar un personaje en el estilo de Chris Sanders.

Yo hice un personaje antiguo de "mexica", la chica azteca Izel, aunque está bastante cambiada en este estilo. En el diseño original tambien llevaba una falda larga además de la túnica, pero como Chris Sanders siempre hace chicas sexys... ;)

En fin, pues eso. Con el color (Copics otra vez) no estoy al 100% contenta, con acuarelas habría quedado mejor, pero mal no está, así que ya vale. ^^

Well, I've already started the summary of our trip to Valladolid, but since I want to traduce it into English, too (for the friends who don't understand Spanish), I go little by little, I'll post it when I'm done. Until then you can read what Marc wrote on his blog.

In the meantime, these days apart from character designs for my upcoming project I've done this week's Design-a-character challenge, which was about drawing a character in Chris Sanders's style.

I did an old character of mine of the project "mexica" - the aztec girl Izel, though she obviously looks quite different in this style. The original design also had a long skirt in addition to the tunica, but since Chris Sanders usually draws sexy girls, well, you know... ;)

Anyway, that's it. I'm not 100% happy with the color (Copics again), it would have looked nicer with watercolors, but it's still okay. ^^

De vuelta de Valladolid! / Back from Valladolid!

Bueno, yo no lo había anunciado en mi blog, pero bueno, Marc y yo hemos estado en el IV Salón del Comic de Castilla y León, celebrado en Valladolid este fin de semana pasado, y ya estamos de vuelta.

Marc pondrá en su blog una crónica de los días que pasamos allí, y yo tambien quiero hacerlo desde mi punto de vista, así que ya iré haciendo.

Well, I didn't announce it on my blog, but well, Marc and I have been to the IV Comic convention of Castilla and León, held in Valladolid this past weekend, and now we're back.

Marc will be writing down a little summary of the days we spent there, and I'd like to do that too from my point of view, so I'll try to the next days.

Son Goku!

El reto para esta semana de Design-a-character es de re-diseñar a Son Goku en tu propio estilo. Y como hoy no tenía otra cosa que hacer, aquí teneis mi versión del Goku pequeñín.

La versión a color la pinté con Copic markers, que hace aaaaños que no usaba, y tenía ganas de desenterrarlos. Me lo pasé genial, y me gusta el resultado. =D

"Design a Character" Shape Challenge

En Deviantart hay este chico con el pseudónimo de LuigiL, que para mejorar sus habilidades como dibujante decidió ir haciendo varios ejercicios o retos, como por ejemplo diseñar un personaje a partir de una forma al azar, o rediseñar un personaje conocido en el propio estilo, o diseñar un personaje para un tema concreto.
Hizo un grupo para que todo el que quiera pudiera participar en estos retos, y me parece una gran idea. Cada semana va colgando un reto nuevo.

Hoy ya es domingo, y mañana habrá un reto nuevo, pero aún así todavia quería participar en el de esta semana anterior, que era una "Shape challenge", es decir, que a partir de las formas aleatorias que te puedes descargar, diseñas personajes.

Y esto es lo que me ha salido. Lo de basarse en las formas te obliga a crear personajes que igual normalmente no crearías, y eso mola. Me gusta cómo me han quedado. :)

On Deviantart there's this guy with the nickname LuigiL, who in order to improve his drawing skills decided to make up a series of exercises or challenges, like for example designing a character based on a random shape, or redesigning an existing character in your own style, or design a character based on a concrete theme.

He made a group so that everyone who wanted to could take part in these challenges, and I think it's such a great idea. Every week he puts up a new challenge.

Today's sunday already and tomorrow there will be a new challenge, but I still wanted to give this last week's challenge a try. This one was a "shape challenge", so you have to design characters based on the downloadable shapes sheet.

And this is what came out. Basing your drawing on odd shapes forces you to design characters you'd probably not draw otherwise, and that's neat. I like how it turned out. :)

Spiderman

Jaja, quién lo hubiera dicho, yo dibujando Spiderman! XD
Pero así van las cosas, he hecho unas pruebas para Marvel, y he usado un guión de un número de Ultimate Spiderman para ello, quizá os suene la escena.

Y como el propio Spiderman al final en esas páginas no salía, también hize una ilustración donde sí saliera.

Enfin, me lo he pasado muy bien la verdad. Ya veremos si sale algo.
En cualquier caso, independientemente de eso parece que por fin vaya a volver a trabajar en breve! Ya os contaré más cuando se me confirme.

But this is the way things go, I did some samples for Marvel, and I used the skript from a Ultimate Spiderman comic, maybe you'll recognize the scene.

And since Spiderman himself didn't even show up on those pages in the end, I also did an illustration where he would.

Anyway, I had a good time doing these, really. We'll see if they're good for something or not.
In any case, apart drom that it looks like I'll finally start working again soon! I'll tell you more about it as soon as I can.

Monsters, Inc.

Estas son unas pruebas para dibujar comics basados en las películas de Pixar.
Elegí hacer algo con Monstruos, S.A. porque creo que el estilo me pega bastante y no es tan complicado en cuanto a fondos y personajes como las más recientes, por ejemplo Up o Ratatouille.
Buscando a Nemo tambien habría estado bien (y no habría que fugar para los fondos! XD ), pero bueno. En realidad creo que para dibujar los personajes de Monstruos S.A. son más divertidos.

La página de cómic es basada en una escena de la película, por cierto. Así tenía muchas referencias para dibujarla - aunque he intentado no copiar directamente.

No sé si saldrá o no algo de esto, pero desde luego que me lo he pasado en grande. Me gustaría mucho conseguir este trabajo, la verdad. Por lo menos si las condiciones están bien y no pagan del todo mal. ;)

These are a couple of samples I did to draw comics based on the Pixar movies.
I chose to do Monsters, Inc. because I believe it suits my style quite well and it's not as complicated in terms of backgrounds and characters as those of newer movies like Up or Ratatouille.
Finding Nemo would have been nice, too (no perspective drawing for the backgrounds! XD ), but well. Actually I think the Monsters, Inc. characters are more fun to draw.

The page is based on a scene from the movie, by the way. Thanks to that I had loads of references to draw - though I've tried not to copy directly.

I don't know if I'll get this job or not, but anyway I had a lot of fun with this. I'd really love to get it, really. Or, at least, if the conditions are alright and they don't pay too badly. ;)

100 Bullets...?

Estas son un par de páginas que hice como prueba para Vertigo. A ver si hay suerte y les interesa mi trabajo. Como no se me ocurría nungún guión cortito así a lo rápido, usé el guión de dos páginas de 100 balas.

En fin, en general me gustan, y me divertí trabajando con tanta masa de negros.

These are a couple of pages I did as a sample for Vertigo. Let's see if I'm lucky and they're interested in my work.
Since I couldn't come up with any quick script for two pages, I used one from 100 bullets.

In the end, I'm quite happy with the result, and I really had fun working with the black shading and stuff.

Mesa de dibujo

Sí señor, por fín tengo una mesa de dibujo para trabajar! =D
Hasta ahora seguía rompiéndome la espalda con mi escritorio de Ikea. Aunque en realidad no es una mesa de dibujo propiamente dicha, ya que no es una mesa, si no más bien una "tabla de dibujo". Se coloca encima del escritorio (es que mi escritorio es chulo y está bien, no quería tirarlo ;) ), y el diseño está basado en este que se puede ver en el blog de Jaime Martín, aunque la mia posiblemente sea un poco más grande.

Como yo no tengo habilidades para la carpintería (ni herramientas, ni materiales, ni espacio para experimentar), se lo encargué a un carpintero que conocía el padre de Marc, de la empresa GILCA en Barcelona.
Y qué puedo decir? Ha quedado muy, pero que muy chula!

Es muy grande (mide 70 cm x 45,5 cm), de modo que puedo trabajar incluso en Din A3 cómodamente - incluso con hojas para fugar, que es lo que más espacio me suele quitar. La superficie es de metacrilato, lo cual me permite usarla directamente como calcadora si coloco la lámpara de escritorio debajo.

Esto es sólo un pequeño dibujo que acabo de hacerme para my fondo de pantalla - para recordarme que me lave los dientes despues de cada comida (porque a veces lo olvido).

Lo que pasa es que las dos últimas veces que me hicieron la limpieza profesional en el dentista me dolió bastante porque tenía las encías inflamadas. X_x
Así que me propuse que no dejaré que eso vuelva a pasar, y haré lo que pueda para evitarlo.

El perro es my perro Kevin. Era un perro genial. Murió hace ya dos años, pero él ya tenía 18 y había tenido una vida muy feliz, así que está bien. =)
Siempre estará en mi corazón.

This is just a little pic I just did for my desktop wallpaper - to remind myself of brushing my teeth after every meal (because sometimes I forget).

Thing is, last 2 times I got my teeth cleaned professionally at the dentist's, it hurt a lot, because I had gingival inflammation. X_x

Now I told myself I won't let that happen again, so I'll do everything I can to prevent it.

The dog is actually my dog Kevin. <3

He was a great dog. He passed away 2 years ago, but he was already 18 years old and had a very happy life so it's alright. =)

He'll always be in my heart.

Hemos estando mirando Battlestar Galactica estos días, y como tengo un montón de tiempo libre ahora mismo pensé que podía probar a hacer una ilustración semi-realista del personaje de Sharon.
También quería probar algo nuevo, así que hice el color siguiendo este tutorial de Sakimichan en DeviantArt.

Creo que salió bastante bien, teniendo en cuenta que fue mi primer intento de pintar así.
No estoy del todo satisfecha con el resultado. Tal vez aún intente mejorarlo - eso es lo chulo de Photoshop, que en cualquier momento puedo volver a abrir el documento y seguir retocando.
Pero por ahora lo dejaré así.

We've been watching Battlestar Galactica lately, and since I've got a lot of free time on my hands right now I wanted to try a semi-realistic painting of Sharon.
I wanted to try out something new as well, so I did the coloring following Sakimichan's Tutorial on DeviantArt.

I think it turned out rather nice, considering it was my first time coloring like this.
I'm not completely happy with it.
I might try and improve it still, that's the cool thing about Photoshop, you can just go back and continue where you left off.
But for now, let's leave it like that.

Oootra versión diferente de la misma ilustración. Y es que tenía la tinta escaneada, tiempo libre y el programita "Art Rage" por ahí, y tenía que probarlo.
Creo que ha quedado... bien, en general, aunque me parece más frio que lo pintado a mano. Fue entretenido hacerlo, aunque tardé muuuuucho más que pintando tradicionalmente. No será nada para hacer regularmente, pero de vez en cuando puede estar bien variar un poco.

Y nada de fondo porque ahí no me salía nada decente con el programa. XD

Aaanother version of the same illustration. I had the lineart scanned, free time on my hands and this program called "Art Rage" recently installed, so I just had to try it.

I think it turned out... rather nice, really, though I think it lacks the warmth traditional pieces have. It was fun to do this, but it took me muuuuch longer than painting by hand. It won't be a thing to do on a regular basis, but I might use it now and then for a change.

And no background because I wasn't able to do anything decent with that program. XD

Hisui + Ryuki illustration

Sí... Soy una cansina, ya lo sé.
Me apetecía dibujar algo por diversión, y sobre todo PINTAR, y no se me ocurría nada original, así que terminé haciendo a estos dos. Estoy jugando "Disgaea: Hour of Darkness" (gran juego!) estos días, de modo que tenía ganas de dibujar a Hisui y Ryuki porque pegarían tan bien en ese mundo. ;)

Pero pintar esto fue un poco horrible. De hecho empezé a pintarlo dos veces porque las anilinas no dejaban de manchar y salirse de la línea, y creía que me había cargado el papel al borrar el boceto.
Pero ya que el segundo intento no salió mejor está claro que el problema era otro. Al final caí en que había cogido el papel equivocado - parecía el papel para acuarelas que uso siempre, pero evidentemente no estaba pensado para acuarelas...

Bueno, no me quedó otra que tirar adelante y terminar la ilustración, aunque al final salió muy guarro y manchado. :( Lo limpié un poco en Photoshop, así que espero que ahora no se vea demasiado feo.

Yeah... I'm boring, I know.

I wanted to draw something just for fun, and especially PAINT WITH WATERCOLORS, and I just wouldn't come up with anything original, so I ended up doing these two. I'm playing "Disgaea: Hour of Darkness" (great game!) at the moment to I felt like drawing them anyway cause they fit sooo well in that world. ;)

Painting this was a bit of a pain, though. Actually, I started painting this twice because the watercolors kept blotching and bleeding out, and I though I'd messed up the paper when I erased the pencil lines.

But that wasn't the problem, cause the second intent didn't turn out much better. In the end I figured I'd taken the wrong paper - looked and felt like the watercolor paper I always use, but it obviously wasn't meant for watercolors...

Well, I just went through with it an finished the picture, although it did turn out reeeeeaaally blotchy and dirty. :( I cleaned it up a bit with my friend Photoshop, so I hope it doesn't look too bad.

Pues eso, que hoy he terminado "Black is for Beginnings"! :D

Ahora, vacaciones hasta julio (bueno, alguna prueba o diseños para el siguiente proyecto tendré que hacer, pero vamos, nada a jornada completa). Tiempo para hacer arreglos para los que nunca encuentro el tiempo, quedar con amigos, dejar arreglar mi pobre ordenador, tener de visita a mi hermana, e ir yo a Alemania tambien.

Y luego, a por lo siguiente. :)

That's right, I finished "Black is for Beginnings" today!

Now I'll have my well-deserved vacation until July (okay, I'll have to do some sketches and designs for my upcoming project, but nothing full-time at least). I'll have time to fix all those things I never get the time to fix, hang out with friends, get my poor old computer repaired, have my sister here for a visit, and visit my friends and family in Germany myself.

And after that, on to the next project. :)

Es bastante curioso, teniendo en cuenta que el libro aún no está terminado (bueno, espero que lo esté la semana que viene) y mucho menos impreso.

Hace media eternidad que no posteo nada por aquí, lo siento mucho! D=

Bueno, para actualizar lo que estoy haciendo, aquí va:

En octubre empezé a trabajar en un proyecto nuevo para Estados Unidos. Se llama "Black is for Beginnings" y es como una quinta parte - en forma de cómic - de una serie de novelas ("Blue is for Nightmares", "White is for Magic", "Silver is for Secrets" y "Red is for Rememberance") de la autora Laurie Faria Stolarz.

Va sobre una chica que tiene premoniciones en sus sueños, y evidentemente tiene que evitar lo malo que va a ocurrir, ayudándose muchas veces de magia Wicca.

Me gusta mucho, me lo paso muy bien con este proyecto.
Aquí os dejo algunas paginitas.

De Kairi salió el tercer tomo en noviembre (o diciembre), y por lo visto será el último. Hace poco me dijeron que la serie se cancelaría probablemente, cosa que no me vino muy por sorpresa pues ya sabía que las ventas no eran buenas, y no me habían dicho nada hace 4 meses. =P

En parte es una pena, pero por el otro lado así tendré la oportunidad de hacer algo nuevo, que ya me va bien.

Ya veremos qué pasa en el futuro. Hasta mayo por lo menos todavia estaré ocupada con "Black" de todas formas.

Yyy nada, aparte de eso un pequeño dibujito que les hice a los nietos de una amiga, unos niños adorables que ahora se han vuelto con su madre a Urugay (porque ella no encontró trabajo aquí). Como les gustó tanto la peli de Totoro que les grabé, pues ale, un Totoro. ;)

Japan Expo!

Bueno, algunos lo sabeis y otros probablemente no, pero el caso es que - la semana pasada fui a la Japan Expo en Paris para firmar tomos de Kairi en el stand de Humanoides!

Hay que decir que sólo tuvieron que pagarme el vuelo porque Audrey, mi guionista, me invitó a quedarme en su casa. Tal vez si no no me hubieran invitado, no lo sé. ;)
Pero a mí ya me fue bien, así conocí a Audrey despues de dos años de trabajar con ella, y no estaba del todo sola perdida en Paris!

Cuando llegué mi primera reacción fue flipar con el realmente muy muy raro aeropuerto de Paris - es todo bastante confuso y es fácil perderse!

Aquí veis una foto de los "tubos" por los que vas a las distintas terminales y secciones. O algo así.

Esta es Audrey. Mi guionista. Muy maja, aunque tuvimos algunos momentos de silencio incómodo por no saber a veces cómo comunicarnos. ;) Hablábamos a veces en inglés, a veces en francés (el poco que sé), y más o menos nos entendíamos. ^^"

Este es el stand de Humanoides. Nos trataban muy bien a los autores, había bebida y barritas de chocolate en una neverita a nuestra disposición, nos pagaban la comida (=bocadillos) al mediodía y podíamos coger comics! Yo me cogí 10 tomos de Kairi de cada de la nueva edición porque nunca me llegan por correo. Aunque Guillaume - mi editor, por cierto - me dijo que los habían enviado. Mierda de correos.
Conocí tambien a unos cuantos autores más de la Shogun, todos muy simpáticos.

Y aquí estoy yo firmando un tomo de Kairi!
En general no había mucha gente, el viernes menos aún, pero nos iba así a todos los autores. Salvo a Shonen, el dibujante de B.B.Project, que todos los días tenía una cola tremenda. Pero me alegro de no ser tan famosa como él, el pobre estaba a diario desde las 13 h hasta las 5 o 6 sin parar de firmar, debía de acabar hecho polvo.
Los demás algún día tambien estuvimos el mismo rato, pero podíamos descansar entre dibujito y dibujito.
Y bueno, eso es más o menos todo. Habría algunas cosas más que contar, pero no quiero enrollarme demasiado. ;)

Buenas, cuelgo una ilustración que hice hace un par de días "just for fun" porque tengo una semanita libre. ;)

Son las protagonistas de un manga que solía hacer hace muuuuchos años (unos... 5 o 6?) junto con una amiga que escribía la historia. Aún le tengo mucho cariño a este proyecto aunque evidentemente, nunca llegamos a terminarlo.

Así que aquí están las chicas de Kelly (era la autora ^^ ): Michelle (pelo ocre), Erica (rubia) y Din (peliroja). =D

Qué hay de nuevo?

Bueno, hoy he acabado el capítulo 10 de Kairi... Llevaba desde febrero con el capítulo de las narices. He de decir en mi defensa que Audrey tardaba bastante para entregar y además tuve que interrumpirlo para hacer el nuevo y misterioso "capítulo 0", que tenía prioridad.

Uuh, capítulo 0.

Es para la nueva edición que habrá de Kairi. Y es que no se vende demasiado bien y han decidido sacar una edición más pequeña y barata (formato Naruto).

He tenido que hacer una portada nueva, esta vez me he encargado yo de currarme un poco el diseño, aunque en la güeb de la Shogun ya he visto que aunque creía haber hecho el archivo a prueba de tontos han conseguido cambiar tipografías igualmente.
Bah, qué más da. Ya me da igual. Es mejor que la edición anterior, eso ya está muy bien. :)

Tambien ya he tenido que hacer las portadas para los siguientes dos tomos. No sé porqué querían ya la del tomo 3, pero bueno. Tened en cuenta que el recién terminado cap. 10 es el primero del tercer tomo, así que aún falta mucho para terminarlo. Pero son cosas promocionales, imagino.

Pues bueno, os pondré las 3 portadas en cuestión (que no me pagan, por cierto - pero por suerte para ellos me encanta pintar! ^^" ), que me gustan bastante. :3

Um, los textos en la parte de atrás son provisionales, ni me he molestado en cambiar el resumen del segundo tomo ya editado. No os molesteis en leerlo. =P

Kairi tomo 2!

Buenas, ya va siendo hora de actualizar el blog!

El 22 de noviembre salió el tomo 2 de Kairi en Francia, y apenas me lo pude creer, pero 2 días despues ya me había llegado un paquete con 10 ejemplares del tomo y uno de la revista Shogun Life! Os recuerdo (si es que lo había dicho alguna vez ^^" ) que del primer tomo no me llegó... ni uno. Se perdieron en correos, supongo. Pero enfin, esta vez hubo más suerte. Menos mal.

De hecho, hasta 2 días antes de la fecha de salida, yo no tenía ni idea de que iba a salir. Pensaba que no saldría hasta el año que viene. Bueno, el autor se entera a la vez que el público de cuándo va a salir su obra, y porqué no?

Al ver la portada en la web primero me deprimí mucho, el diseño es, digamos... bueno, digamos que se podría mejorar. Pero sobre todo se les fue la olla a los de Humanoides, se suponía que había que CORTAR la ilustración de la portada (y contraportada), y lo tenía dicho, pero la cortaron? No.

El resultado es que ahora se ven unas preciosas líneas de lapiz por los bordes que marcaban por dónde había que cortar. Sobre todo en la contraportada, en la portada no se nota mucho si no lo sabes. Y debajo de la imagen de la portada hay una sombra del scanner de donde había cortado el papel, lo cual no queda demasiado profesional.

Bah, da igual. Por suerte por dentro la edición es muy guapa y bien impresa!

Como ya entregué el tomo 2 de Kairi y aún no me envían nada nuevo para trabajar, pues os subo algunas fotos de la mudanza a Pineda por puro aburrimiento. Ala!

Esto es con lo que nos encontramos despues de llevar todas nuestras cosas allí. Bueno, no todas, si la mitad se quedó en el piso de los padres de Marc porque aquí no hay sitio.

Aquí estoy yo vaciando una caja con cosas para la cocina.

Y Marc guardando juegos y pelis en la vitrina.

Llamándo a Telefónica porque no nos iba el internet.

Aquí ya estaba solucionado y la zona de los escritorios toda montada.

Portada del tomo 2

Bueno, aquí veis la evolución de lo que será la portada del tomo 2 de Kairi. Siguiendo la idea inicial de hacer las portadas en serie en plan shooting de fotos (mismo escenario, misma gama de colores...), primero hice a Kairi sola en el mismo escenario de la primera portada, sólo que esta vez visto desde dentro.

Pero al editor no le convenció esta versión y me pidió que Kairi estuviera sonriendo y que pusiera a Shin. Bueno, esto cambia un poco la idea original, en la que las portadas no incluían a Shin, pero la verdad es que creo que así es mejor porque me da más juego. :)

Shin sí que está serio porque si no quedaba muy el plan foto de parejita feliz. XDD

Y eso. :)

Aún sé pintar, por lo que parece! :D

Por lo menos me gusta el resultado. :3 Bueno, los edificios a través de la ventana quedan un poco raros, pero no quería cargar con mucho detalle. ^^"

Enfin, tengo que seguir currando, que se supone que he de acabar el tomo 2 hasta el 15 de septiembre! Y me quedan unas 20 páginas, así que... a darse prisa! @0@

Rotuladores UNI Pin

Bueeeno, ayer por fin acabé el capítulo 6 de Kairi... ya era hora!

Pero ahora no os pondré más imágenes de eso aquí, que lo teneis muy visto. ;)

En cambio os pondré una foto de un mostrador de rotuladores de la marca UNI, para los que hace un tiempo hice una ilustración.

Como veis, me pidieron el estilo de Kairi, es más, prácticamente se puede decir que querían a Kairi como personaje, pero obviamente eso no es posible, así que les hice un casi-clon de ella, pero un poco cambiada. :P

Ahora me pidieron una página que he acabado hoy, pero no la puedo subir porque no creo que eso les hiciera mucha gracia. ;)Pero os pongo una viñetita que me gusta mucho, con el Arc de Triomf, porque querían que se reconociera que era en Barcelona y esto como está al lado de mi casa, pues para sacar fotos me resultó facil.
Tambien tengo otro trabajito para estos días, muy bien pagado por cierto, de la empresa BASF en Alemania. Tuve mucha suerte que me pillaran, aún con el enchufe de una conocida de mi madre. He de dibujar 18 dibujitos de dos mascotas que les he diseñado, un zorrito y un tejón, que por cierto me gustan mucho y me lo estoy pasando muy bien. :D

A ver si en algún tiempo me dejan subir alguna muestra de eso. :3

Buf, voy a subir algo por subir, que hace 2 meses que no hay nada nuevo... :P

El caso es que todavia no termino el capítulo 6... Aunque bueno, ya queda poquito, voy por la página 25.

Audrey se ha estado retrasando un huevo y medio con este capítulo, y yo que si un día trabajo, un día no... Aunque suene bien, la verdad es que es un rollo, porque nunca sé cuándo me van a volver a cargar con trabajo y por eso no me relajo del todo aún en mis días libres. ^^"

Además, mientras no entregue nada de sueldo, claro está.

Por lo menos por fin he cobrado por el capítulo anterior. Sí, he tardado 2 meses en recibir mi pago! No pregunteis las razones, no las conozco, pero espero que no vuelva a pasar.

Bueno, da igual.

Olé, por fin he terminado el capítulo 5. Gracias a retrasos por parte de mi guionista y a diversos viajes por mi parte me he retrasado... un mes. Tendría que haberlo entregado a finales de febrero. Más de un mes de retraso, para ser exactos.
Así que estoy muy contenta de haberme quitado este capítulo de encima. ^^

En general me lo he pasado bastante bien con este capítulo, es más alegre (dios mio, es alegre! O_O ) y por tanto más divertido de dibujar. Kairi es mona cuando sonríe, y todo. :P

Tambien a partir de la página 20 o así cambié el formato de trabajo, que ya no es más en A3, si no en Din A4. Me esperaba que bajaría bastante el nivel de las páginas despues de eso, pero qué va, la verdad es que incluso me gustan más así. Oo Y voy más rápida. :)

Bueeeno, os dejo aquí algunas páginas y yo me tomo el resto del día libre y me voy a jugar al Final Fantasy XII! :D~

Por cierto, el primer tomo de Kairi debería salir... ya! Este mes, se supone. A ver qué tal. *-*

Bueeeeeeeno, hace un par de días acabé por fin el capítulo 4 de Kairi (con casi un mes de retraso... ^^""" pero con esto está acabado el tomo 1! :D ), y mi guionista aún no ha terminado el capítulo 5, así que... tengo un poquito de tiempo libre ahora mismo, por fin! *-*
O sea, tenía tiempo libre de vez en cuando tambien antes, pero es distinto cuando no estás pensando constantemente en si deberías estar trabajando o no... ;)

De todas formas, no es que esté sin hacer nada, ahora por fin tengo tiempo para hacer dos ilustraciones para un libro de español (en el que trabajó mi madre :P ) que me pidieron ya hace tiempo y que he de tenerlas para fin del mes.
Hoy he acabado los lapices definitivos.

Tambien quiero aprovechar el tiempo para hacer algunas pruebas para álbum, con los personajes de Sherry, os acordais? ^^
Pues eso.

Pero primero lo del libro, que eso urge más. X3

Y bueno, aparte de todo esto y en realidad no tiene nada que ver, pero la semana pasada me apunté a Aikido para hacer un poco de deporte por fin, que me hace falta, y ya siempre he tenido ganas de hacer algo rollo de artes marciales.
Aunque he de decir que me gusta del Aikido que sea relativamente tranquilo, no hay hostias por lo menos de momento, tecnicas sí, pero nadie se hace daño. ;) Es además un deporte bastante meditativo, con tecnicas de respiración, de equilibrar cuerpo y mente, cosas así...
Enfin, que mola, y eso. :D

Eso, os subo unas cuantas páginas que tengo hasta ahora del capítulo 4, voy por la mitad más o menos. :)

Pero está claro que antes del 23, que es cuando me voy a Alemania hasta el 6 de enero, no terminaré el capítulo... quedará poco, espero, pero sí quedará algo.
Pero qué se le va a hacer, para Navidad me merezco unas vacaciones yo tambien. ;)

Y ahora antes hará que comprar y preparar regalos y hacer galletas! Para mí la época de adviento (el tiempo antes de Navidad ^.- ) no vale nada sin hacer galletas de navidad! :D
Creo que eso es algo muy alemán de mí... XD

Lapiz para la portada

Bueno, ya he hecho el dibujo para la portada, a ver que os parece.
Críticas, sugerencias etc, pero os pido que me digasi todo rápido, ya que si no con las prisas de la editorial cuando me digais algo es posible que ya esté calcado a limpio para entonces! XDD

No estoy muy segura, pero puede ser que su cabeza esté un pelín muy pequeña? .___. O no, creo que está bien... O.o"

Ah, pienso entonarlo en el interior todo con tonos como dorados y cálidos, y afuera oscurecer mucho un poco azulado para contrastar y que parezca que es de noche. A ver qué tal queda, es un poco arriesgado, pero me he inspirado en unas fotos que vi en una revista... ;)

Como veis haré la primera versión, ya que todos estamos de acuerdo en que queda mejor... ^0^

Portada para Kairi

Ya sé que mi blog apesta por no actualizarlo, en un par de días subiré nuevas páginas. ;)

Ahora tengo una pequeña pregunta para todos.

La editorial me ha pedido que diseñe la portada (y contraportada y lomo) del tomo 1, el caso es que las portadas de todos los tomos deben seguir un concepto común.
He hecho dos propuestas, al editor las dos le parecen bien, a ver cual os parece mejor.

1. Ilustraciones tipo modelos idol (pero con ropa, no os hagais ilusiones :P ), pero como la serie está dividida en 3 temporadas con 3 tomos cada una, había pensado en hacer los 3 tomos de una temporada como si fuesen de una misma sesión de foto, es decir, con la misma entonación, fondos parecidos y así. Poses y ropa distintas, claro. ;)

2. Ilustraciones tipo Art Nouveau (Mucha), aunque con elementos más modernos para que pegue con la serie (esto último no lo tengo muy claro todavia, acepto ideas :D ), el título y número del tomo estarían de alguna manera integrados en la ilustración.

Bueno. Yo la verdad es que me inclino por la primera opción sencillamente porque creo que pega mejor con el tipo de serie, aunque no sea muy original, y porque me lo pasaría bien pintando. ;)

Pero a ver qué me decis, pero hacedlo rápido por favor, que tengo que hacer la portada para YA! XD

Capítulo 2! :D

Buenoooo, ya está acabado el segundo capítulo! ^0^

Y hace un par de días por fin recibí mi primer pago, ya puedo decir que estoy ganando dinero de verdad. ;)

Ahora me tengo que poner con el tercer capítulo, pero antes de empezar necesito diseñar y planificar el ryôkan (hotel tradicional japones) en el que se pasará gran parte del capítulo, y aún estoy esperando información al respecto de mi guionista... Peeero bueno, iré haciendo storys o algo. ;)

Por el momento os cuelgo algunas páginas del segundo.

Necesito más tiempoooo, a este paso no acabaré antes de navidad! ;0;

Pequeño "making of"

Solo para demostrar que sigo viva, aquí un pequeño “making of” de una página, es decir, las versiones de lapiz, tinta y trama de la página 18.

Es la última que he terminado, por cierto. Tengo hasta la página 20 del segundo capútulo dibujadas, pero bueno, supongo que sigo siendo demasiado lenta… ^^”

Y eso, bueno, esta ni es la mejor ni la peor página que he hecho, pero por alguna razón me gusta, además la primera viñeta me hizo perder un montón de tiempo… :P

Capítulo 1

Sabeis qué es lo bueno del manga?

Que nadie se queja si haces una ilustración tan sencilla como la de un o dos personajes en pose de foto, y listo. Ni siquiere hacen falta fondos.

Está muy bien hacer algo así para relajarse un poco de hacer tantas páginas, y bueno, de todas formas había que hacer una ilustración para "portada" del primer capítulo.

Me lo pasé bien, de verdad, mola esto de hacer un dibujillo así de vez en cuando. :3

El editor me dijo que pusiera título de la serie, título de capítulo (que, ya que los capítulos no tienen de eso, se ha quedado en "capítulo 1" :P ) y nombres de los autores.
El "logo"... bueno, lo he hecho yo rapidillo para ver si podría ser algo así, no sé si luego la editorial se ocupa de diseñar uno o si me tengo que ocupar yo tambien de eso, en cuyo caso pos va a ser que acabaría siendo algo por el estilo. ^^"

Enfin.
Tinta, obviamente, y tramado en Manga Studio EX (que es muy guay el programa, para quien quiera hacer tramas de estas, claro ^^ ).

Ah, con esto doy por completamente finalizado el primer capítulo (bueno, aparte de lo del logo, que igual se queda pendiente hasta que me digan algo :P ). ^0^

Ale, a volver a centrarme en el segundo... ^^"

Una prueba de color...

Bueno, por subir algo (es que no quiero ir subiendo páginas todo el rato, pa no meterme en lios...), esto es una prueba de cómo podría hacer el color con las ilustraciones que tarde o temprano me tocarán hacer para Kairi...

Me miré mucho las ilustraciones de Katsura, claro, como me habían dicho de imitar su estilo... Y sus ilustraciones están de puta madre ;)

A Kairi se le ve distinta todavia en este dibujo, lo hice antes de empezar a dibujar páginas, pero bueno, me gusta igualmente. ^^ Aunque tenga alguna que otra mancha en dibujo... ^^"

Ah, y usé referencía para la pose, sin embargo, la chica en la foto estaba vestida, así que tuve que inventarme bastante el cuerpo :P

Espero que algun día de estos me pidan hacer alguna ilustración, me gustaría variar un poco de hacer páginas y pintar algo ^^"

...es un título de un inexistente cuento para niños, para el cual he hecho esta pequeña ilustración:

"Mira", le dijo la niña a su perro, "Todos dicen que los lobos son bestias malas, pero yo no les creo. No pueden ser malos si se parecen tanto a ti!"

Era una ilustración para clase, pero me gustó la idea y a ver si algún día se me ocurre algo para desarrollarla más. :P

Me lo pasé muy bien con esta ilustración, y estaba loca, pero me apetecía pintarla con gouache XDD

He aquí unos cuantos personajes que hice hace un par de meses, antes de empezar el trabajo en Kairi, de un proyecto que justo empezaba a tomar un poco de forma... El guión no es mio, es de un amigo. Pero a ver si un día de estos consigo el tiempo de seguir un poco con esto aunque esté haciendo Kairi, que me lo paso bien con estos personajes. X3

P.D.: Las sombras no coinciden con todos los personajes, eso es porque los hice uno por uno y en realidad no están pensados para montarlos así :P

Bueno, es una dudilla que tengo, a ver si me podeis ayudar... Estas dos páginas irán así juntas, y no sé si poner aquel gris degradado en la segunda página para que no sea tan brusco el cambio de una página a otra, o si dejarlo tal cual, con el fondo de la página todo blanco.
El editor dice que mejor con el degradado, pero yo no estoy muy segura, así que a ver qué opinais. ;)

De acuerdo, ya que Marc insiste en que escriba en Español y es cierto que de momento sobre todo gente de aquí está viendo mi blog, escribiré en Español por el momento.

Veamos, algunos sabrán que hace un par de meses trabajo en un manga para Humanoïdes, pero poca cosa se ha visto, así que voy a subir algunas páginas aquí ;)
Pocas, pero bueno. ^^

El guión es de una chica llamada Audrey Diallo, y el manga se publicará mensualmente en la revista Shôgun (http://www.shoguncity.com) y más tarde tambien en tomos recopilatorios.

Ya solo me quedan 2 páginas del primer capítulo! :D Que son 29 páginas en total. Y luego a por el segundo, hasta Navidades tienen que estar los primeros 4 capítulos! @0@

About one month ago I went to Darmstadt in Germany, to some kind of meeting of drawers from the online cummunity Animexx (www.animexx.de).
They do this every year, but unfortunately I hadn't been able to go there for the last 2 years because I live in Spain, and well, that makes it complicated.

But it was great to see all those people again and meet others I didn't know yet! :D

We spent 3 great days there together, grettings to all of you, in case anyone reads this! ^^

Bueno, ya que a todos mis colegas les ha dado por hacerse un blog y mi novio insiste en que siga la corriente, pues aquí estoy~ ;)
